Hard drive replacement problems

I purchased a 500GB hard drive to upgrade my Tivo series 2. I have followed all the instructions in the Hinsdale How To and when I put my new hard drive into restore the mfs backup image, the Tivo is stuck on the Welcome screen. I have changed the jumper settings and still no luck. I put my old hard drive back in and the Tivo boots up fine. Also, when I put the new hard drive back into my PC with the appropriate jumper settings/IDE connections, the BIOS now does not see the hard drive. I also don't hear the hard drive spinning or being accessed. I bought the STE3500830ACE hard drive for my Tivo (TCD540080).
What am I missing?

Sounds pretty much like a dead drive, all around. Do you hear it spin up in the TiVo? Was it new or a refurb?

I'd return it to the place or purchase for a replacement, or return it to Seagate.

Been here a long time . . .

I thought so. I was hoping you would tell me I missed something instead of it being a bad hard drive; and, I purchased it new!
I never heard it spin up when I installed it in the Tivo.
Hopefully the next one I get works!!
