  • diagonal bands

A week or so ago our old Directv Samsung 4040 started behaving strangely...

First the color seems to flicker.
then the color goes into almost a negative of normal and then the audio goes away and the video goes into marching diagonal colored bands.

I ordered a new hard drive and installed it and that went fine.
    But the problem persists.

If I turn off the power for a while, it comes back to normal for a while. (sometimes its fine for hours)
If I play a DVD it is fine.
other directv units in the house work fine.

    Any ideas?

    thanks
    Bill

It's possible that you have a bad power supply that heats up and causes problems. If you want to try a new one, we have replacements here:

But it's just as likely that you've got a problematic motherboard, sorry to say.

is there any test that I can do to see which it is?
      Motherboard or p/supply?

Basically, you just need to try the power supply and see if that does it.
