  • Moving Drive from one TiVo to another (yes, again)

I searched and scanned a little for the answer to this and found that most everyone asked about moving a drive from one unit to another and they were vastly different models... SO:

I've got a (dead hard drive) 540040 on monthly and a 24004A that's a Lifer. The Lifer has a ≈150GB QuickView drive in it that I bought and formatted with Instant Cake (that right?) a little while back. I'd like to get another drive (pre-formatted this time) from wK, but want to put it in the 24004A and move the ≈150GB drive to the 540040.

My questions are, is this possible without reformatting the drive I'm moving; and does this even make sense to bother doing since I can transfer back and forth anyway? When/if I make the change, there will be no programming or settings or season passes I'll care about. All will have been moved to another TiVo or deleted.

    Thanks!

You cannot move drives from a 540 to a 240 and vice versa. It won't work, even if you are willing to lose all programming/recordings/settings.

OK, I sorta figured that, but had to ask. So pretty much you can only move 540 to 540 then. I don't want to have to crack open a PC to format a drive again. I'll only be buying wK drop-in drives from here on out.

      Thanks again!
