My TiVo HD box, about 2 years old, has started freezing up while I'm just watching TV, it doesn't seem to do it during playback. It will get all choppy, get progressively worse, then just freezes up completely. If I change the channel then come back, it either works again, or I just get a blank screen. Sometimes I'll turn on the TV and it's frozen on whatever channel it was on when I shut it off last. The odd thing though is that it still records everything just fine.
I keep reading that it may be the hard drive, but it doesn't seem to be doing it when I play back from the hard drive, usually only happens when I'm watching broadcast TV. Seems to happen a lot more while watching the HD channels over the analog channels. When I test the cable signal, it always comes back at 100.
Maybe I just don't know how the TiVo works, does everything, playback and broadcast go through the hard drive(s)? I've replaced the hard drive on my old Series 2 TiVo through weaKnees, so I'm comfortable with the process and have no problem doing that. I just wonder if the problem would be the hard drive(s) since this happens mostly while I'm watching TV, not playing back.
