  • Searching for Satellite

I have a Directv Tivo SD-DVR80. It mostly works, but intermittently (mostly in the late afternoon) the system says it is looking for one satellite or both. A reset almost always fixes it. Also, in trying to reverse the antenna connections, I found that removing and reinserting antenna connections usually fixes it also. One last detail - I had another SD-DVR80 until a few days ago. It did the very same thing, plus it periodically froze. The Directv people thought the problem was in the tuner(s), so I found a used unit to substitute. Now the replacement unit has some of the same problems. Suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Maybe you need to have your dish checked.

      Jeff,

Thanks for the really fast response. Does the receiver send any sort of signal to the dish?

Yes, the receiver typically powers the dish through the coax and can send a signal to the LNBs to determine what information to send to the receiver.

So the problem is probably in the LNBs?

That's the first thing to have DirecTV check, anyway. It may also be in the wiring, or some coincidence with the units, but the LNB is our guess.
            Been here a long time . . .
