  • Tivo HD indicates "No Signal" when Cable Cards installed

I've been trying to activate a used Tivo HD for over a month now. Comcast has been to my house several times, and loaded the unit with 6 different M cards and 2 S cards, but each time I get the same error:

The LIVE TV screen displays the no signal message, and the background is either gray or black depending upon what color I've selected for my letterbox. The Tivo works fine without cablecards.

    Here's what I know:

The tivo does display the proper channels in the proper locations.
In DVR diagnostics I see that there is no signal lock or channel lock.
    Signal strength is nil (-)
The CA Active program screen is devoid of any information.
The CP authorization is: Authorization Received
The QAM modulation fluctuates between 64 and 256. it just bounces back and forth.

To eliminate any signal problems, Comcast laid all new cable from the pole to my house. The signal strength is now +13 (up from 1).

I've had numerous calls with Tivo and Comcast, and no one can help with this. Tivo is adamant that the problem is in the pairing rather than the Tivo box. Comcast is equally adamant that the problem is with Tivo.

Does anyone have experience with this problem? Are there any kickstart diagnostics that I can run to shed some light on my problem?

    Thanks in advance,

Can you get any info from the previous owner? To me, anyway, that sounds like a TiVo/CableCARD slot problem.

Do you get OTA channels with the cards, or cable channels, or both?

      Hi Mike,

The previous owner had the unit hooked up to Comcast with an MCard just a few towns over from me. He disconnected the unit when he made a Myth TV PC.

Since the unit is not under warrantee any longer, the best Tivo has offered to do is swap it out for a refurb to the tune of $150. Tivo still believes that the problem is in the cable card pairing rather than the box. I was hoping that there is an advanced diagnostic that would allow me to more thoroughly scan my box for problems.

Last night I ran a kickstart 54 SMART scan of the drive. That worked out well, so I initiated the overnight scan following that. I've not checked up on the unit since then. Are there any other kickstart diagnostics that would help me? i thought about forcing a reload of the software, but did not know if that would un-pair my cable card with the box.

      Thanks,

There really aren't other applicable kickstart codes, but we have a whole kickstart code list you can see for more info.

I'd take the $150 offer, personally, since I think that's likely the source of the problem.
