  • Series 2 frozon in power up on 1GB upgrade?

    Hi,

I just received my WD 1TB upgrade for my Series 2 TiVo (5400040). I did the install (swapping out the old drive). When I powered it up the unit started the initial setup. It was able to hook up to my wireless network. It then rebooted.

The unit has now been on the orange "Welcome! Powering up..." screen for an hour. Is this normal? Is this because of the large drive or is something wrong. I'm afraid to power it down in case it's fsck'ing the harddrive.

I thought my new would be ready to boot up immediately.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Okay too many irons in the fire today.

This should have read "Frozen" and "1TB" upgrade:

Waited just over 2 hours and nothing changed. Sounded like harddrive had stopped accessing, so I pulled the power and put the old drive back in. On the plus side the drive is incredibly quiet; while it was accessing I had trouble hearing it through the case. Now I just need to get one that works.

Also, the old drive started back up without a hitch. I got everything plugged back in just in time for it to start recording again.

I set aside 3 hours this afternoon to do the swap. I need to know if there's a drive problem or it the 1 tera-byte drive just takes several hours to start up. If this is something that happens on every restart (e.g. I have to wait several hours), I may try to return this unit for a smaller drive.
