  • Getting Pixelation and Freezing, Series 3

A few months ago I purchased a Series 3, with 1 TB internal and 1 TB external drives. Then a couple of weeks ago, with no assistance on my part, the TiVo froze on the powering-up screen. I sent the unit and external drive back to WeaKnees and received them back within the same week (thank you very much).

Now I'm getting occasional pixelation and image-freeze during playback. Is something dying? The disruption must be occurring during the recording, since I see pretty much the same thing when I watch the same interval again. The problem will last about 5 seconds and happens in about 1 out of 10 recordings--at this time.

If you watch it again and it's basically identical, then the problem is most likely with the incoming signal, and it's getting recorded to the drives.

Try re-watching a segment and see if it's really identical. You may need new CableCARDs or some signal fixes from your cable company.

      Interesting...

Thanks for your astonishingly rapid response.

Very interesting that you mention the cablecards. Every now and then (maybe once a week) a black screen with white lettering will pop up telling me that a cablecard is not working properly and that I should contact my cable provider. I just dread calling those people. Previous tele-encounters have been peevish, ignorant, unconcerned... (the list is long) ...and seem mostly focused on attacking Big Macs. I guess I'll have to get the serial numbers and buckle up.

If you focus on the problem with them, they should be able to just deal with the CableCARDs. But, I agree, dealing with the cable company is never fun. I'm six weeks into a cable internet conversion, with no end in sight.
