DirecTV tivo, model r10 file removal?

I have an old DirecTV tivo, model r10, that I only use to watch the stored programs in it. I know it is not compatible with tivo to go, but could I remove the HDD and connevt it to a computer to get the video files off of it? And then possibility transfer them into my new Tivo HD? I no longer have DTV I have Verizon FiOS.

The files on your box are encrypted and you won't be able to just copy them off I'm sorry to say.
