  • Upgraded S3 HD, but can't re-pair w/DVR extender

Have an S3 with the TiVo-marketed DVR Extender (external 500GB), and the internal HD began to fail. So I bought and installed a replacement WK internal HD, and all is great...except I'm caught in a message #125 loop.

The S3 finds the external drive, and gives me message #125 (I think that's the number) to format/pair it. So I do the ol' three-thumbs-down and enter routine, wait a while, and it restarts and comes back. But it still shows the internal-HD-only amount of storage. And then, after a minute or so, it again discovers the unprepared external drive and gives me message #125. I've gone through the cycle a few times, and it's not "sticking." I've tried powering both down as well, but same result.

Suggestions? I'd like to stop both the repeated message and to have access to the additional storage of the external drive that worked fine pre-internal-replacement.

Thanks for any help folks can provide!

Right - a larger than stock A drive won't see an external in that situation. If you send us the two drives, we can set them to pair.

      Just to clarify...

Even though it appears to see it, then "forgets" it? Same issue?

Is there no resolution short of sending the Series3 and the extender to you? Seems like a costly and time-consuming fix.

Thanks for the quick response; I appreciate it!

Yup - that's really the only way, short of you doing it in Linux. If you want to do that and you have a PC that can handle the SATA drives, instructions are here:

          Related issue.

I am in a similar situation. I ordered a Weaknees replacement drive for my Series 3 TIVO. The drive works great but the WD DVR extender will not pair. Does the Linux fix need to go on the TIVO drive or on the DVR extender drive? Also, can I pair the drives without losing the content on the "A" drive?
I also don't see directions that refer to pairing at the link you provided. Can you please post teh linux directions or email them to me at [email protected]?
          Thanks
          Tim

We can do it here - see this page:

            http://www.weaknees.com/misc.php

We need both drives, but no, you don't lose the content on the A drive.

              pairing problem

I am able to do the linux steps myself if I have them. Can you provide a link to them? I can not see the steps after going through the upgrade matrix at the link posted earlier. Is it as simple as expanding the partition on the replaced internal drive?
              Thanks
              Tim

We don't have that information available. Sorry.
