  • Power problem?

    Hi!

I have an older DVR (SIR-S4040R). Every few days it will not allow me to do anything; the screen is black and the remote will not do anything.
So I unplug it, wait 15 seconds, plug it back in, and it boots up and is working again. Any idea what kind of problem I am having? Is there a solution?

We've heard of a few people getting that. It could be a bad drive. Have you tried a replacement?

We have replacement Samsung TiVo drives.
    Been here a long time . . .

      Power problem?

No, I have not tried a different/new hard drive. Think it will solve this problem?

It's our best first guess, but by no means a slam dunk.

          Michael,

This happened for ther first time last night: While watching a TiVo
recorded prgram, the picture froze ~ and I had to restart the TiVo
to get it going again. Does this help you solve my problem?
          Still the hard drive?

Unfortunately, we can't know for sure what your problem is based on these symptoms. We recommend that you try a drive, as that is the most common cause of freezing, but it is possible that you have some other issue.

If for some reason the drive doesn't help, we do accept returns within 30 days, subject to a 15% restocking fee.

I've had a similar problem with an RCA DVR80, but I've replaced both drives already (first an upgrade to a second drive, then a replacement of the original first drive), and it's still happening, sometimes as frequently as once every 24 hours. I'm beginning to wonder about the power supply myself, but are there drive tests I can do first to see if they identify any problems?

                Thanks,
                John

You can try these TiVo kickstart codes to get some info. Probably 54 is the one you want.
