  • Stuck - Getting Program Info (Preparing)

    Tivo Series 2 DVR - TCD540080

    FACTS

    1) Girlfriend just moved in with above Tivo DVR.
    2) She has lifetime contract.
    3) DVR worked fine at her previous home (only 6 blocks away).
    4) Bought TIVO wireless adapter at Best Buy
    5) No problems on initial set-up; i.e., accepted new zip code, recognized my wireless network, recognized Comcast service provider, etc.....
    6) Until we get to "Getting Program Info" screen
    7) Stuck at "Preparing" on the "Getting Program Info" screen
    8) Tried 5 different times since - leaving on for 12 hours on the last attempt

    Looking for suggestions on fix (hard to believe this is a hard drive issue as unit was working fine in different location)

    Sounds like a bad hard drive - the drive can't store and index the data. We have replacement drives here:

      Really - Bad Hard Drive?

      Bad hard drive is the diagnosis? The unit was working fine two days ago. It was unplugged and moved to a new location with great care. What could cause the hard drive to fail under these conditions? Thanks for all of your help.

        Sometimes the failure is just coincidental; sometimes it's do to a physical move or other event. Even off, moving a drive can damage it, if it's older.

        In any event, drive failure is strongly indicated by it's failure to be able to write and index the guide data.
