  • RCA DVR40 o DirectTV R15-100

My RCA DVR40 has 5 channels that are now intermittently pixelating. My father gave me his DirectTV R15-100. Can I move the drive from the RCA to the r15? I tried to hookup the R15 and put in the DVR40 access card. It wouldn't work.

What are some suggestion for using the R15 and using the larger (400gb) hard drive that I purchased from weaknees in July?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

btw, my second tuner in the basement does not pixelate any channels.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Nope - that won't work at all. You can't change the drive in the R15.

We can repair the tuner in the RCA:

      Hard Drive

Can I reset the drive to work with the other tuner? What makes them different that the drives can't work between units? Just curious.

Thanks Michael for taking the time to answer my questions.

      Thanks,

      Jason

You can use only the first tuner, but not only the second one, sorry to say.

Those two models just have entirely different hardware and operating systems.

That stinks. Assuming I burn off what I want to, can I format the drive and set it up for the new one? can you guys do that?

You cannot use the drive in an R15, if that's what you're asking.

Can I remove the drive, send it back to you and have you format it for the R15? How much would this cost? I am having trouble believing that there are differences in hard drives. Operating systems, yes, hard drives are physically the same. Do you guys not have the OS for the r15?

              Thanks for your help guys!

No - there's no way to upgrade an R15.
