  • Swapping around Hard Drives

I know this has been approached a couple of different ways, but....

I have 2 series 2 Direct TV DVRs. The one I've been using is a Samsung 4040 that I upgraded by adding a 160GB hard drive. It looks like the original 40GB in that unit has died. When a buddy upgraded to HD-DVR he gave me his Hughes HDVR2 which hasn't been upgraded, so I'm guessing it also has a 40GB in it. I know maintaining programing and all of that is out of the question but, can I either take the hard drive from the Hughes and slap in in the Samsung, or take the 160 hard drive out of the Samsung and slap it in the Hughes? If I move the 160 to the Hughes, do I need to reformat it first? Thanks for the help.

There are lots of possibilities, but, essentially, you need to fully reformat to move drives from a Hughes to a Samsung, or vice versa.
    Been here a long time . . .
