    Tivo HD TCD652160 freezing issue

    I have a TCD652160 which as started periodically freezing on me. Originally it seemed to only freeze on recorded shows and I could sometimes skip forward and it would eventually continue, but now is freezing and stuttering more often. Last night and this morning when it would freeze it would not respond to the remote and would reboot after about 30 seconds. It is freezing both on HD channels and standard def channels.

    I have cable company coming tomorrow to check the multi-stream cable card. But would a bad cable card freeze up the box enough that it reboots? What should I make sure the cable company checks when they are on site?

    That's almost definitely a hard drive problem. A "replace" kit for your model should fix the problem:

    I really can't see how that could be a CableCARD issue, but try ejecting the card, playing the shows, and see what happens.

      This is a box I just got from you guys a couple months back. I will send a message to your info e-mail address to start the return for repair process.

      When I called and talked to someone there on Monday they recommended contacting the cable company since they said cable cards are common issue with these boxes, but it was just freezing then, the rebooting has started since then.

        Yeah - it sounds more and more like a bad drive. So we should check it out.

          I have been told via e-mail this is a cable card issue and not a Tivo box problem, even after the cable company came and looked at it. So it appears this may not be a bad drive.
          Everything I have seen on this and other forums shows this type of sympton is drive related, but it appears when your Tivo uses a cable card the card can cause the same symptoms. Even forcing my Tivo to reboot 4 times while trying to watch one football game.
