I may have a hard drive failure on my hands.
A couple of weeks ago my 4.5 year old DirectTV TIVO HD DVR (Hughes HR10-250) started freezing the video for a second or so. It got worse and worse, more an more frequent, to the point that it froze completely. The system itself freezes, too. At this point, the TIVO is useless.
If I turn it off for a while and then reboot, it works perfectly for about half an hour and then it quickly freezes. When it freezes, there is no audio signal sent to my home theater amp.
Assuming this is a hard drive problem (and not a motherboard or power supply or something like that), can I simply swap out the drive with a new, larger drive and be back up and running?
How can I know for sure what the problem is?
