moving a hard drive

I have a Hughes series 2 directv tivo with a bad tuner. If I buy a DIRECTV DVR with TiVo -and no hard drive, can I put the old hard drive into one of the Bare DirecTV TiVo Units., or will i have to buy a new hard drive also. and if so, what's the point of buying one without a hard drive?

You can move the drive only if the replacement is a standard definition DIRECTV/TiVo Hughes unit.
