I have a model 540040 Series 2 that has lately been showing the signs of impending hard drive failure: pixellating video, video/audio freezing up on both live TV and recorded shows. Just wanted to make sure that I diagnose it correctly.

Reading the troubleshooting sections on this site, it sounds like: If it's a tuner problem, the same problems will reoccur at the same places in a recorded show or live TV, but if they occur randomly during replays of the same video portion (either in the live buffer or a recorded show), it's a hard drive problem.

That seems counterintuitive to me (at least for the recorded shows), but am I reading that correctly?
