  • Add a drive from one Tivo to another

I have a Series 2 Tivo that took a lighting hit which fried the mother board. can I take that hard drive and add it as a second hard drive to another Series 2 Tivo? I understand that I will need the drive bracket, power splitter, etc.
    Thanks!

Yes - and you'll need to reformat it:

    or:

Also, will opening my new box void the warranty? (I think it will, which means I'll wait a year to add the 2nd drive from the old unit.)

Just act like the old drive hasn't been formatted. The above links will write over anything on there.

Yes, it'll void the warranty. I think the warranty on those units is currently 90 days.

Ok- Im kinda feeling dumb asking this question- But maybe i have got myself more into then what I can handle?

"clear and delete everything" < what does this mean. will this be a option when I put the drive from my broken tivo to the new Bare Tivo and boot it up? (this is the drive I bought in Feb)

Or am I going to have to hook it up to a PC- Etc?

Also does clear - delete < erase all the shows?

Clear and Delete everything installs a clean version of the TiVo software on a drive. It erases all shows, season passes, preferences and the like.

If you have two TiVos that are the same model, you can move the drive from the broken one into the new one and then run the C&DE process to serialize the drive to the new unit.

Do I need to format the drive even if it came out of another series 2 Tivo?

Disregard my last. I see that Jeff answered my question.
                Thanks!
