  • Install config question

I just received my new replacement HD (70 hr) capacity for my Series 2 Directtv DVR. I'm installing it into a DVR which I had previously upgraded to a 2 drive configuration. I installed the new HD in place of the original HD (closest to the left when viewed from the front panel). I installed a jumper to the Master position on the new drive. It set-up just fine, but now only shows 66 hours recording capacity. My second HD is 120GB and prior to drive replacement, the DVR showed capacity equating to both HD's working. Did I make a mistake by installing the jumper?

No - that's not the issue. To reuse the other drive, you'd need to send both back to us together for reformatting. Replacing an A drive won't match to a B drive without putting the drives together formatting-wise in a PC.

      Second Drive

If I recall correctly, when I installed the B drive, it was a raw drive that I purchased and I used your bracket. Is that likely or would I have purchased the drive from you too? If so, can I just reformat the drive in one of my PC's? If I got the drive from you originally, can you just reformat the b drive without my taking the DVR out of service? The two drives were never together until I installed the B.

Our drive kits aren't "raw" - they're formatted specifically to make the upgrade work. If you want to try it, info is here:

Do you offer a service to reformat my second drive the same as it was when I bought it as an add-on ? When I purchased the upgrade kit I didn't send you my original drive.

Sure - but we also need your A drive back here. Larger-than-factory A drives need to be in our PC at the same time as the older B drive. Email us with your order number and we can figure out pricing:

Thanks for your quick responses. Are there upgrade options that do not require me to ship my A drive to you now that I have a replacement A drive installed or does this limitation apply to all upgrades from here on?

The only way to go larger without sending that drive back to us would be to just replace it again with a larger drive kit.
