  • Power supply in DSR 704?

    Hi,

I've got a Philips DSR 704 DirectTV-Tivo that I upgraded with a new 250G drive about 6 months ago. Last night the I couldn't call out so I cycled the power and never got back on - no lights, no messages on the screen. I opened the box, powered up with a spare cable and noticed the fan was dead. Another fan works fine so I suspect something over-heated. I get 5V red/black and 12V yellow/black on the HD power supply, but the HD doesn't seem to spin. It does does spin when hooked to a PC and the PC recognizes it, so I think the HD is OK. I was thinking this is a bad power supply, but why would the voltages to the HD be correct and why wouldn't the HD spin up?

The power supply is controlled by chips on its board, and if those are fried, the machine won't power up, even with the correct voltage. It does sound like you need a new TiVo power supply.
    Been here a long time . . .
