Swap HD Series 2 DT to a Series 2

I have a std Series 2 80 hour machine (TCD24008A)with lifetime but the HD has gone bad. It hangs on the 'Just a few more miutes' screen.
My friend gave me a Series 2 DT 80 hour unit (TCD649080) that he had monthly service on. I swapped the drives but the screeen hangs at 'Hello, Powering Up' on the std Series 2 model.
Any ideas?

The software in these units are completely different; the drive has to be loaded properly to work. You might actually be unable to load the software at all, depending on the model drive that was in your TCD24008A.
