Hi,
I have an HDVR2 DirecTivo that I believe has motherboard problems (picture intermittently degrading on one tuner, picture fine on the other). So I ordered a refurbished HDVR2 without hard drive from Weaknees.
Today I swapped the hard drive and access card from the old unit to the new unit. The unit booted up fine and I'm able to receive the DirecTV test channels. (I haven't called DirecTV to authorize the new receiver yet). However, when I try to access my Now Playing List, I get an error message that goes something like this: "DirecTV has detected a hardware problem with your receiver. You must reboot your receiver. Until you do this you will not be able to record programs or play back previously recorded programs."
I tried rebooting the receiver, but the problem persists. Since the hard drive I am using was hacked (increased capacity, network support, and encryption disabled), I tried the original hard drive that came with the HDVR2. The problem is still there.
Does anyone know what is going on? I can see three possibilities:
- The HDVR2 I just bought is bad.
- I need to authorize the unit with DirecTV before I can play back recordings
- I need to do something to the hard drive to mate it with the new receiver.
I'm going to call Weaknees tomorrow to see if they think the unit is bad, but if someone can tell me something I can do to fix the problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
PortlandGTS
