  • Directv DVR R10 -- Programming Update Problem

    I have a DirecTV R10. Most of the time, when I go to "Pick Programs to Record" I get a black banner along the bottom saying something like "programming is being retrieved from the satellite.........". Only occasionally does it go away. Usually my programming is only one week ahead (with the black banner) but the few times the banner disappears I get the full two-week programming.

    Yes, I am doing the telephone line connection.

    I have talked to DirecTV but their technical competence leaves something to be desired.

    I have two other DirecTV TIVO units (different models) which do not have this problem.

    Can anyone help me?

    You should try the option for "clear and delete guide data" which will empty your program guide, and rebuild it from scratch. This is the best way to try to get clean data.

    If that doesn't do the trick, then you likely have a bad hard drive. You can get a "replace" kit from here to fix that:

        Okay, I did the dump Friday. Like you said, it took awhile. I totally rebuilt my Season Passes. The programming seems to be holding (as of Saturday evening) without the black box saying it is updating from the satellite.

        I will keep my eye on it. Thanks for the help. Regards
