  • DSR704 Searching for signal Sat 2 ???

My DSR704 started acting up about 2 weeks ago after we had some major wind. I have a total of 5 Directv receivers (one being another DSR704) in my home and this is the only one with the problem.

It constantly flashes "Searching for Signal on Satellite In 2" and every program on that tuner is choppy and pixelated. It also resets itself randomly 2 or 3 times a day. I've swapped cables on the back of the machine and it still shows the Searching for signal on Sat 2. I've also tried the fix suggested in Weaknees' troubleshoot section dealing with problems on the second sat input (redoing guided setup) and it didn't help.

I replaced the Hard Drive and Power Supply (from WK) about 3 or 4 months ago and everything worked fine until that wind storm.

The Directv tech just came out here and immediately said it was the receiver and nixed my idea that maybe the dish moved slightly because he said I was getting the signal with no problems on all my other receivers. He never even went outside to check the dish despite my asking him to over and over. He gave me a new Directv Plus DVR dual receiver that I'd rather not hook up as I much prefer the TIVO nav better.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with the 704? Thanks.

Can you try using the old drive again to see if that helps? It's unlikely, but possible, that it's a drive.

More likely, during the storms you got some extra voltage on the line killing the tuner. We can fix tuners generally, or we have replacement units here:

    Been here a long time . . .

Thanks Mike. Yeah I put the old drive in and still having the same problem. Probably the tuner? Is it worth fixing?

Could it by chance be a software bug? Or am I reaching?
      thnx

Probably a bad tuner. You can try pausing when you see pixellation on liveTV. Then switch tuners (down on the circular pad) and see if the pixellation stops. If it does, you have only 1 bad tuner. If you want info in repairing the bad tuner(s), send us an email.
