What model TiVo and what style of remote? Could you have set an access code? Could you have disconnected the white ribbon cable that went to the front of the unit from the motherboard?

The Tivo is Model No. TCD540080.
I accidentally disconnected the ribbon cable to the front of the Tivo when I removed the hard drive ribbon cable. However, I pushed the ribbon cable back in as far as it would go. I did all this before the remote problem.
The remote has the following numbers inside the battery area: SPCA-00031-003 and 030506/A1

Today, I installed new batteries in the remote. I opened up the Tivo, took off the front cover, and confirmed that both ends of the white ribbon cable are firmly in place.
I restarted the Tivo but it will not respond (no flickering LEDs on the face of the Tivo) when any of the remote's buttons are pressed. (The LED on the remote comes on when any button is pushed.) Note that the same remote works with our other Tivo.

If you powered up with the white ribbon cable disconnected, that may damage the motherboard and cause this specific problem.
