Hi,
Although I have been using TiVo for a while I am pretty new at this forum, and all the upgrades. I also want to say upfront that your help is highly appreciated!
I have TiVo TCD 240040 with the Lifetime subscription.
Recently I got a GSOD. It keeps rebooting but always gets to the green screen and reboots again.
I am all for a new HD, I do not care much about the recorded programs and I am OK to go throgh a new set up once again.
My only problem is I am not sure that the problem I have caused by the HD failure, although it looks like it. TiVo did have some problems, pixelations and pauses few days prior to the complete failure. Also it was not able to see the second TiVo on the network a few days before the death, but was seen by that other TiVo.
My other option would be to get another refurbished box from TiVo for $149 + one S&H (with my subscription transfered)... Most likely I will get an 80hr box (at this time they do not have many 40hr ones), but it is possible that it would be a 40hr again. Most likely it would be a newer model though.
Here are the questions
1. I wanted to take one of the HDs I have around the house and put a new OS on them, but looking through your instructions I realized that I would need an original TiVo HD to copy the OS. Is that right? If so then the failed HD is probably not the best candidate for the copy...
2. As I mentioned I have another (workng) TiVo, so I could have took its HD out and use for making a new HD for TiVo#1, but it's model is diferent (TCD 540040). Would this work? I am not sure that I would like to do that anyways, cause it is getting too time consuming and complicated.
3. If I buy a replacement HD from WeaKness and my TiVo#1 (240040) would not work, what could I do with this HD? Could I return it? Could I use it for 540040, or it had to be set up diferently for this model?
4. My TiVo#1 had quite a few years on it (at least 3 or 4). Even if we would know that my problem is HD related only, would you recomend a replacement or you would opt for a new (although refurbished) box with a smaller drive?
Thank you so much for all your help and opinions!!!!
Sincerely yours
Vladimir
