  • My Series 3 is dying....

All was well with my TIVO until this afternoon. I did some year end pruning of my season passes and deleted a lot of shows that were on my now playing list. After that the thing started to give me problems

The first problems were that it started to take a long time for the menus to draw. I counted to 15 before I got a now playing list. The search lights in the background screen were jerky.

Then I started to have problems watching live TV. Recorded shows weren't a problem. Pixelating, not responding to remote controls, jerky picture. I tried to watch some recorded TV and it was fine until.....an uncommanded reboot.

Now the systen keeps trying to get through the "powering Up" cycle. It gets to the THX screen and the little tivo guy, and then hangs up before I get any menus. After a while it tries a new restart.

From what I can tell, a lot of these are the symptoms of a bad drive. I can certainly live with that, but in reading through this board, I don't see much on the slow screen draws that I have been seeing. Would long delays in building now playing lists and such come from a bad hard drive?

    Thanks in advance!

Yup - those all sound like hard drive problems, including the delays, the jerky screens, and the reboot.

A new drive should fix all of that. You can see our options by choosing your exact model here:

Thanks. Sounds like I'd better get on the phone. Glad to hear that the problems that seem unrelated really are symptoms of this.
