  • Hughes GXCEBOT BAD Power Supply

Hughes GXCEBOT BAD Power Supply. It mysteriously resets and then HANGS on reboot. If I then pull the power cord and reinsert then it completes the reboot (everytime!)

I have it set up on 4 one inch spacers to allow better cooling underneath and I have added a small electric fan beside it in the semi enclosed TV stand/cabinet since it seems warm. This DOES seem to have helped but still happens about 1 or 2 times a month. . . I sometimes miss shows I wish to have recorded.

I have replaced HDD, Parlex cable. Yesterday I opened it again, I can see where at sometime in past, a capacitor in the Power Supply has leaked although everything now is dried and baked in so I assume it was some time ago!

I am contemplating replacing Power supply but do not want to pay $100 for one. I have expertise and capability to replace individual capacitors if I can locate them. But would like a fall back plan incase it takes a while.

I have XCEBOT is identical (motherboard and Power Supply) to a SONY SAT-T60? I saw this remark when looking for the schematic of the Hughes GXCEBOT power supply.

    Is this true?

I see many of the SONY's on ebay but few GXCEBOT?

I have a larger HDD in my GXCEBOT and a Lifetime Subscription so I really would like to keep it alive.

    ANY ADVICE?

This is actually normal - most power supplies have this white material, and it isn't from a leak.

At least functionally, yes, they are identical.

I've got to say, though, that hanging on reboot sometimes is much more often a bad hard drive than a bad mother supply. But if you've replaced the hard drive with a new, tested one, then you should try a new power supply.
    Been here a long time . . .

Yes this began quite a while ago and I ordered a new (larger) HDD from here. It seemed corrected but happened again not too long after that. Then I read somewhere it might be heat related so I lifted up onto spacers adn put an external fan on it nd it has behaved pretty good for a while now but its doing it again.

Am I correct about having to start over again with subscription if I buy a whole new TIVO?

I'd like a newer one but have tried keeping mine alive because I don't want a monthly subscription fee.

If you get a replacement DIRECTV with TiVo, then your subscription cost will not change from what it is now. The only exception would be if you originally bought your GXCEBOT used or on eBay.
