  • Error #86? Failing drive is 1st guess

Seeing problems on an older Series 2, stuttering blocky video image, Now Playing list failure to display.

Plus, when attempting to record a program I now get an "Error #86."

Any guesses as to what that means? Can that confirm drive failure so I can happily order a replacement drive without fearing other hardware failure?

I think you have a drive problem.

You might try a 'clear and delete everything' in the system reset menu. If for some reason it never comes out of that, then you definitely have a drive problem. If it does get through it, that might clear your 86 error, but you still could have a drive issue.

      worth a try

I'll give "clear and delete" a try and report back.
      thanks.

        Clear and Delete failure

Tried "clear and delete" which failed to complete. It chugged along most of the night, unplugged it for a while, started it up again only to return to the "this might take an hour" screen. Yes it might, and it might never complete the process too!

On the way to order replacement drive...

Yup - sounds like it's pretty dead. The replacement should do the trick.
          Been here a long time . . .

            Nothing 'pretty' about it!

Thanks to you and Jeff for the input.
