  • Receive/record HD signals with TIVO units

    Excuse the novice question.

I am replacing my old fashioned TV with a HDTV. I have DirectTv.

I have been using a Phillips DSR704 that Weaknees built for me a while back (2 hard drives, etc).

Now if I chose to order the HD channel package from Directv- will the DSR704 unit have any use at all, as either a receiver or a TIVO storage unit?

Or do I have to start over again with a new box? Lose all my shows, preferences, etc.

I hate to start over, as I have spent quite a bit on money/time on the current TIVO receiver to date, with upgrades, etc.

    Thanks for any advice.

The current TiVo will work, but it will not record or output in high definition...so you would not want to use it on an HDTV if you are paying for the HD package (no benefit for the $10/mo you'd be paying DIRECTV).

If you want a DVR for DIRECTV that is HD, see:
