  • White Screen after "Welcome, Powering up...."

    I have a Tivo Standalone, Series 2, TCD540xxx080, with a Lifetime subscription.

I replaced the original Maxtor 40GB HDD with a WD 250GB and it worked fine. I then got greedy, ordered a dual drive bracket with fan (turbo) with the power trip, and tried to add another 250 GB drive that I had (also brand new). After trying to bring both drives active it gave me the white screen after "Welcome, powering up..." and then nothing happens after that. I tried the original Tivo HDD and it doesn't work anymore. Same symptoms. I am bummin' out now... I do have the original tivo ISO image in a backup file.

So I checked the power supply outputs, 5 V is 4.98, and the 12 is 10.6 V with NO LOAD. So, I ordered a replacement power supply from Weaknees and before installing it, I measured the output voltages and I measured 10.7v vice 12v. I called Weaknees and the unit they sold me was used. They don't ensure the Power Supply output is within a spec of 5-10 % (which should be the expected output tolerances for power in electronic devices). They advised me to send it back for testing and I did. Now they tell me that the part worked fine in their unit. Really? Bummer again.

SO, now what is left, the motherboard? Or is the Power supply still suspect? I ran diagnostics on my HDD's and they're fine. I believe that my drives are not spinning up to speed with the lower 12v power, and that is why it will not work. Or another voltage on the Power supply to the motherbooard is out of whack...

    Ideas?

Will Weaknees troubleshoot and repair the unit for me? If it IS the motherboad, will replacement be the end of this unit's lifetime service?

    Thanks in Advance!

    Happy Holidays.

We do test each power supply before we ship it. Some are new and some are used, but all are clearly labelled either way on the order page.

Those voltages are about right. Further, if it works here, that's really a better test.

If neither power supply works with any of your drives, you likely have a bad motherboard, so you should then contact TiVo for a repair.
    Been here a long time . . .

Anyone out there with a Series 2 able to measure their Power supplies output and confirm that a 12vdc PS output, with no load at @ 10.6 vdc is working on their unit?

Single or dual drive info would also be great to know.

      Thanks Again !!
