  • Bad "System Control Circuit" ?

My Toshiba SD-H400 had been freezing up about twice a week, requiring a power down and reboot each time. I took it in to my local Toshiba Service Center, and they diagnosed and said it needed a new system control circuit for $195. Web searches reveal nothing about a system control circuit. Any idea what they want to replace, and can I just order a "system control circuit" and fix it myself?

    Thanks in advance.

Actually, that's almost definitely a failing hard drive. You could pull the drive end test it in a PC, or you could just try a new drive from here:

Then, if it doesn't do the trick (we'd give it a 98% likelihood of fixing the problem) you can return it.
    Been here a long time . . .
