  • DVR40 stopped working when additional drive installed

I bought an add a drive kit from weaKnees and followed directions and now I cannot get either drive to work. When powered on I get "welcome. powering up" and the unit stops. I've tried both hard drives seperately , making sure that the jumpers were set correctly, but still only get to the "welcome" screen.

    Any ideas?

OK - first, an "add" drive kit will only work in conjunction with an existing factory drive. It has no OS on it - just the right partitioning information.

Next, did you original drive work properly before this?
    Been here a long time . . .

      DVR stoped working

The new (second) hard drive was from another directv tivo that I replaced with a larger (300 gb) purchased from weaKnees. The 300 GB works perfectly. I figured that I could take the smaller drive and add it to my existing second D-Tivo to increase its' capacity.

What you are trying to do simply won't work. Once you add a drive to a TiVo, the two become inseparable...a married pair. Sounds like you are trying to pull 1/2 of the pair out and stick into another TiVo...that won't work unless the drive is reprogrammed for the new TiVo.

I guess I'll order a replacement hard drive. I still have the add a hard drive kit. Anybody want to buy it?
