  • v9.1 update revived my DVD drive!

This is going to sound crazy, but the DVD drive on my Pioneer DVR-810H, which had died almost a year ago, came back to life last night - right after my Tivo was updated from v8.3 to v9.1

The only thing that does not work is the front panel button. Everything else is back to normal - plays and writes DVDs again! Can anyone explain? Did Tivo accidently disable the DVD drive in an earlier system update?

They never accidentally disabled it as far as we know. But it's possible that the updated contained a new version of the firmware. What version shows in your System Information?

I'm pretty sure that's the same old firmware.

Hard to guess what happened there.

The truly amazing part is I had spoken to one of the Weaknees folks the day before and I was getting ready to box up the Tivo and send it in for repair of the DVD drive. Now I can focus those dollars on a hard drive upgrade from you guys!

You might want to burn a handful of discs to be sure, but if it works, go for the upgrade!
