  • Reverting back to 1 drive

I tried searching to see if there was a way to do this without restoring from an old backup to just the 1 drive. But I didn't find anything.

    Here's my situation...

I have a DirecTivo HR10-250. I bought it on eBay since at the time, you couldn't buy one new. It recently started freezing up and then it went into the reboot loop. I took it apart and checked the drives with spinrite. The main drive (seagate 300GB) checked out fine. The second drive (A F-ing refurbed WD 160GB. What a cheap-O. Anyway...) couldn't get past the first section. So I am going to order a new 300GB drive from here to replace the 160GB. Until that arrives though, I'd like to go back to a 1 drive unit. Then expand back to the 2 drive.

I've upgraded quite a few Tivo's standard def and a couple of these HR10-250's, but I've never ... degraded one. Is there a way to un-add a drive to the main drive? I'd like to keep my season passes and whatever shows that are on the main drive (If they're stored in such a way). If the only way is to restore from a previous backup, the good news is that the guy I got the Tivo from, gave me a CD with a backup on it. He got the full upgrade kit from 9th Tee that came with a PTV upgrade disc.

Aside from that, after my new 300GB drive comes in, will I be able to easily add that one? Or will I have to restore to both drives and essentially lose all of my settings again? I haven't ordered the drive yet since that will be an easy addition once it comes in. I really want to just get my Tivo back up and running soon.

Now after my long winded explanation of what my situation is, hopefully, there is simply a mfs command to remove an additional partition. Or a way to replace the second drive without being able to read the drive image.

    EDIT:
I just ordered the DB35 300GB HD and a new power supply (weather it needs it or not). I still would like to get the unit functional before the drive and PS show up.

Yup. If the 160 is dead, then you'd need to just reimage the 300 from the CD.

That's what I thought I would have to do. I was hoping though.

      Thanks for the info.

Well, unfortunately, after restoring my image to a brand new DB35 drive I ordered from here, All I get is the welcome screen. It's in worse shape than before since it doesn't even reboot anymore. I also installed a new power supply ordered from weaknees also. That seems to be functioning properly though. I'll switch back just to rule it out, but I seriously doubt it's that.

I got this whole thing from a guy on eBay. so maybe he got hosed by PTV or the instant cake thing. Whatever the case, I can't seem to get my tivo running with the image that was on the CD.

Are there HR10-250 images out there somewhere that will work with my DirecTivo?

Any other options to try? I'm already out > $200 for a HD that's either DOA or can't be used because my image is bad. and a power supply that, if I can't get this tivo going, was a waste also.

You can have us format the drive if you want:

That's a little steep. Doesn't the HD's come ready to install when you buy them through the upgrade path like this one?

All I need is a proper image and I can restore that to the drive. It appears that the image that is on the CD I got doesn't work. I tried restoring that to the new drive from WK as a standalone drive. That didn't work. And I switched the power supply back to my original one. no change.

Is there a place to get the images online? I'm not going to pay $55.00 to get the drive re-formatted. I'll find the necessary tools/data somewhere and do it my self if I have to.

            I'll check some other forums.

OK - we didn't supply the CD - we don't do that at all.
