I tried searching to see if there was a way to do this without restoring from an old backup to just the 1 drive. But I didn't find anything.
Here's my situation...
I have a DirecTivo HR10-250. I bought it on eBay since at the time, you couldn't buy one new. It recently started freezing up and then it went into the reboot loop. I took it apart and checked the drives with spinrite. The main drive (seagate 300GB) checked out fine. The second drive (A F-ing refurbed WD 160GB. What a cheap-O. Anyway...) couldn't get past the first section. So I am going to order a new 300GB drive from here to replace the 160GB. Until that arrives though, I'd like to go back to a 1 drive unit. Then expand back to the 2 drive.
I've upgraded quite a few Tivo's standard def and a couple of these HR10-250's, but I've never ... degraded one. Is there a way to un-add a drive to the main drive? I'd like to keep my season passes and whatever shows that are on the main drive (If they're stored in such a way). If the only way is to restore from a previous backup, the good news is that the guy I got the Tivo from, gave me a CD with a backup on it. He got the full upgrade kit from 9th Tee that came with a PTV upgrade disc.
Aside from that, after my new 300GB drive comes in, will I be able to easily add that one? Or will I have to restore to both drives and essentially lose all of my settings again? I haven't ordered the drive yet since that will be an easy addition once it comes in. I really want to just get my Tivo back up and running soon.
Now after my long winded explanation of what my situation is, hopefully, there is simply a mfs command to remove an additional partition. Or a way to replace the second drive without being able to read the drive image.
EDIT:
I just ordered the DB35 300GB HD and a new power supply (weather it needs it or not). I still would like to get the unit functional before the drive and PS show up.
