how to create backup image

I have a new disk to replace the one in my dying HR10-250, but before I install it, I want to make a backup image of the new disk.

I have the procedures here http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/ for restoring an image, but I don't see anything there for creating one.

Are the instructions on mfslive.org up to date?

mfslive is up to date, but you can also use our instructions. Just do the "copy to a larger drive" type and opt for the backup. You'll get what you need.
