  • Partial Recordings and deleted programs

    Hi,

Looking for help on some recent issues with a recently purchased (ebay) R10 DVR. Both relate to season pass recordings and have only happened once I've gotten some content saved to the unit. I've probably got about 30 hours of the 70 hour capacity used. Here's what's happening:

    1. Partial recordings get saved, and can be accessed and played from the Now Playing List. Last night got 40 minutes of a 90 minute show.

    2. I don't see a scheduled recording. Recording history indicates that the program was deleted to clear space for other recordings. The deleted time oddly is one minute BEFORE the scheduled end of the show. So my show that ended at 9:00 PM got deleted at 8:59 PM.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions you might have.
    Keith

Sounds like you might have a problem with your unit or your satellite feed. You might consider trying a 'clear and delete everything' in the system reset menu to get a fresh install of the TiVo software. You should also verify that your system information screen shows up to 70 hours.

Thanks Jeff for getting back so quickly. Satellite feed is probably OK since I just switched out a Hughes 35-hour DVR for this larger capacity R10. I checked the capacity on the system information screen, and it reports "Variable up to 67 hours."

One other item, that my wife just informed me of as she reads over my shoulder--she did experience about 5or 6 random reboots since we've had the unit (spread out over about a 3 week period). Based on some of the other threads, that has me thinking hard drive (uggh), but I will try the clear and delete everything option and see if that helps. I'll be sure to post my findings.

67 can be right - the new OS seems to have shaved a few hours off these units. But it does sound like you need a new drive.

Thanks Michael. I have the hard drive from a DirectTV DVR which they told me I could "do with as I pleased." So, based on what I've read on the forums, I could technically use that drive to replace this bad one. Looks like I need to do some "reformatting" to get it to work.

Now, my question is, what if anything can I copy/transfer from the bad drive--the TiVo software? the shows? Since my last post, the bad drive has had multiple successful recordings and a couple of partial ones. I did not try the clear and delete option just yet thinking I might be able to use this other drive as a replacement.

I know you folks will prepare the drive for me, but I could handle it assuming the old drive is good enough to at least copy the software. Please let me know your thoughts on my options to replace the bad drive. Thanks.

I would try just transferring the OS only for the best bet at getting a good copy. Once you include recordings, you greatly increase the chance of copying problems also.

            We have copying info here:

Well, its been a while, trying to find a PC with the right insides (# of IDEs, power supplies, etc), but I finally got around to doing my replacement. I took the Maxtor drive out of the DTV R15 DVR and copied the TIVO os from the failing R10 drive across using the weakness instructions.

Everything went without a hitch. I am currently up and running and with an additional 70 hours of recording time. As a bonus, I've got a backup image to use in case of future issues. I still need to verify that season passes and recordings happen as scheduled so I will post the final results either way in a week or two.

Thanks to you guys for your knowledge and timely reponses to all of our questions. The other threads were of great help during the copy process and that coupled with the instructions made the whole process a breeze.

Great way to make us of (at least part of) an R15!
